President's Message
Message from AFFP President

Dear Movie Maker,
It's amazing to think of how the film industry has changed. Jean-Paul Sartre wrote that 'film
will never be art until the medium itself is as cheap as paper' - and now it almost is.
Everyone now has the tools to make movies, which makes this an exciting time to be in the
creativity business. Welcome to the web presence for the AFFP. We started this group with
just a few film makers who wanted a bigger umbrella to promote their work, as well as help in
the process of getting our films made. The AFFP has evolved into one of the leading motion
picture trade organizations, recognized by Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, the Hollywood
Creative Directory, and even the Fullbright Scholar Board as being a strong resource for film
making, with members from all points across the globe. The AFFP strives to represent our
members. We were the only organization to make a call to action when AMPAS disqualified
online films from Academy Award consideration (read the article in
WIRED Magazine), and
we stood by the Creative Coalition in their fight against censorship and runaway production
(
Creative Coalition). If you would like to be considered for membership you may send a bio
of your work.  Welcome to our new members, and we're proud of the amazing response our
group has generated.

Brent Roske
President, AFFP

Brent Roske serves as the President for the American Federation of Film Producers (http://www.
FilmFederation.net), through which he has accepted speaking engagements at Streaming Media West,
MB5, the Arte Series, Digital Hollywood, and is a frequent guest lecturer at UCLA. He was recently
nominated for an Emmy for his series "Sophie Chase" starring Kate Clarke. An advocate for ‘filmmaker
friendly’ legislation, Brent and the AFFP were the only group to oppose the AMPAS decision to ban
online films from Academy Award consideration. He was also active in his support of the Creative
Coalition’s opposition to the Media Marketing Accountability Act  (S. 792). Brent is a member of the
Director's Board of Motion Pictures as well as a judge for The Key Art Awards and Variety's Video
Premiere Awards. Brent is also an award winning film & television producer, with credits including the
feature 'Playground Girls'
which recently screened at MOCA with the national tour of Basquiat, and
television campaigns for Chevrolet, Visa, the Olympic Games, Columbia Pictures, Dreamworks,
Universal, and many more. He recently received the 'Audience Choice' award at NATPE 2006. He has
also won
6 Telly Awards, a Reggie Award and an Environmental Media Marketing Award.
